Middelburg → Mainz

Bodhi squinting into the morning sun, the Cayenne behind him with the roof tent open on a car park near Mainz

After a few tears here and there saying goodbye to our family and friends, our adventure finally started for real. We left the home front at eight o’clock and had zero plan of where we would drive to. The only thing we had decided beforehand was that it had to be south, towards the sun.

Within 20 minutes we were driving into Belgium. Time to fill up, because jeez, that makes quite a difference for the wallet. We continued our way into Germany. It hadn’t really sunk in yet that we had actually left. Mostly we just felt happy that after months of preparing, we were finally on the road.

Meanwhile we drove deep into the night, and at Mainz we took the exit to a camper spot to fold open the tent for the very first time. Night 1 had arrived.
